chlamydia and gonorrhea test
This test screens for two of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) – chlamydia and gonorrhea – which are spread through unprotected sex with an infected partner.
Chlamydia and gonorrhea can infect all genders, and the infection can even spread from a pregnant woman to her baby. You can get chlamydia and gonorrhea more than once even if you have been treated in the past.
Both infections are usually curable with antibiotics, but if left untreated, these infections can be passed to other partners and can cause issues for both men and women.
who should be tested?
This test is recommended for anyone who wants to know about their sexual health, as well as those who:
- Engage in unprotected sex
- Have symptoms of an STI
- Are concerned they’ve been exposed to an STI
what are symptoms of chlamydia and gonorrhea?
Chlamydia and gonorrhea do not always have symptoms, but they may include:
- Pain or burning during urination
- Pain during sex
- Abdominal pain
- Abnormal genital discharge
- Bleeding between periods
- Swollen or tender testicles
what will my test results tell me?
Your results will tell you if you are positive for chlamydia and/or gonorrhea.
Please keep in mind that this test only checks for chlamydia and gonorrhea infection in the genital area. It does not check for chlamydia and gonorrhea in the rectum or throat, or for other STIs. If you think you have been exposed or engage in risky sexual behavior, you should seek testing to check for infection in these areas as well.
If your test results detect chlamydia or gonorrhea, you will have the opportunity to speak to a board-certified licensed PWNHealth physician in your state at no additional cost. The physician can prescribe medication, if appropriate.
